The PEAK STAR PARTY has become an annual event aimed at ALL levels of amature astronomer, who would like to meet with like minded individuals to enjoy, observe, image and share their passion for the wonders above over good food a possible beer or two and more recently...... a rocket race !!
Where Did It All Start ?
The event idea was initially born on the UKAIF (United Kingdom Astronomical Imaging Forum). The general concensus was that we needed a gathering which would be central to ALL the country. The most logical destination was that of the Peak District, with its dark skies and unspoiled scenery. The nearest astronomical organisation to the Peak District was that of the WPAOG (White Peak Astronomical Observing Group) of which several of its members are active on the UKAIF. The scene was set when a member of the WPAOG announced that he would attmept to arrange an anual gathering for the active members of the astronomical community.
Why Choose Greenhills ?
Greenhills has easy access from the A6 (main) Derby to Buxton Rd.
It has the advantage of being high above the nearest town of Bakewell, whilst being around 12 miles from the Spar town of Buxton, this all lends to good dark skies!!
Greenhills also boasts solid ground on the grassed pitching area, even in the wet. The ground will almost completely support the erection of any amount of equipment.
