| Info | The Astronomy Centre is part of the Department of Physics and Astronomy within the School of Science and Technology at the University of Sussex. We have close links with the Particle Theory Group and are situated in the same corridor of the Pevensey II building.
Undergraduate degrees in astronomy
Astrophysics can be studied as part of a range of undergraduate degrees (MPhys/BSc). These are taught by members of the Astronomy Centre and other lecturers in the Physics and Astronomy Department.
Postgraduate degrees in astronomy
We accept applications for postgraduate degrees at any time. Both research and taught (MSc) postgraduate degrees are available, full- or part-time.
Research degrees: DPhil/MPhil
Two research degree programmes are available, DPhil and MPhil (a DPhil is a Sussex PhD) Research degree opportunities are available in all our research areas. Prospective DPhil students should consult the DPhil Projects Page.
Taught degrees: MSc
MSc courses are half taught courses and half research project. Students undertake a significant project in one of our research areas. We have listed some example projects here.
Funding
For students satisfying the STFC criteria we have fully funded DPhil studentships available every year. We welcome applications at any time from candidates and can explore funding options with you once we have an application.
