"Patrick's main interest is, as you might have gathered, astronomy, a passion which was sparked by picking up his mother's 1898 copy of the "Story of the Solar System" by G. F. Chambers, at the age of six.
Patrick was born on March 4th 1923 to Captain Charles Trachsel Caldwell-Moore MC and Gertrude, n'ee White. His father was a professional soldier and died in 1947; the lungful of gas he inhaled in the First World War finally caught up with him.
His mother, on the other hand, was trained as a singer and lived for a grand innings until her death in 1981 - she was 94. Patrick was always very close to his mother and she was a talented artist who lived with him at his Selsey home which is still colourfully decorated with many paintings of "bogeys", little friendly aliens, which she regularly produced and were sent out annually as Patrick's Christmas cards." |
