BOINC UK was born out of SETI UK who were originally set up on 19th May, 1999 by our current founder Mike (Lookers) although at the time he did not quite realise exactly what he was doing !!
The "official" SETI UK and Team Lookers was brought to life on the 22nd June, 1999 and so celebrates its 10th anniversary later this year.
SETI UK became BOINC UK when the BOINC platform became adopted as the default.
We are proud to have contributed over 700,000 Classic SETI WU`s
We like to think we have made a not unsubstantial contribution to the SETI/BOINC community. Amongst a number of "firsts" were a newletter (BUNC), mp3 interviews with David Anderson, Eric Korpel, Amir Alexander (of the Planetary Society) and a worldwide online conference involving members of the SETI/BOINC community and the Team at Berkeley. Copies of the newsletters are still available, as are the mp3 interviews. |
