Info | Mid Kent Astronomy Society was started in 1977 as an amateur astronomy society. The society was formed by amateurs interested in astronomy to share their experiences and learn from others.
The society was formed initially to observe the stars and planets, but soon took an interest in other space and astronomy matters by way of discussions and talks from eminent speakers.
The society spent several years seeking a location for a permanent observatory, before being offered the current facility (where our observatory is now based).
Our permanent observatory houses our Celestron C14 (14") Schmidt Cassegrain telescope which is on a motorised and intelligent guided mount.
The club owns a variety of equipment (which is available for use by members) including the fully equiped observatory, a variety of telescopes and a 16" reflector telescope. |
