InfoWhere we meet.
The church hall St James-the-Less, Stubbings, Maidenhead SL6 6QZ (The Soltau Center) is located on the Henley road on the West side of Maidenhead town. The access is close to the war memorial. There is ample off road parking. The Hall is open at 7.45pm and meetings begin at 8pm. There is a break for refreshments at about 9.15pm. Time permitting we can make use of the darker sky.

Member have range of interests from beginner level upwards. Photography and imaging is popular (see examples in the Members photo gallery). The committee aims to offer the membership a place to meet and enthuse about astronomy, and to pass on the pleasure of seeing and appreciating the night sky.

Telescope evenings are arranged (details at meetings) and public observing events.

The Society has an 8" Newtonian reflector, and an Orion Optics 6" with electric drive. The German mount for the 8" can be set up semi permanently. The 8" contains a mirror ground by members in the 1960's and was figured by H Wildey a well known mirror maker. Both these fine instruments are available for use by members. The 6" is a good starting point for anyone considering the purchase of their own telescope.

The Society has a growingl collection of books and visual aids in its library. These are on display at most meetings. Please speak to our Librarian.

Members with an email can have their address added to the group mailing list. Group mailings provide information on meetings, astronomical events (e.g. a bright comet), aurora, observing evenings and topical observations.

Observing evenings
Observing evenings are arranged on a monthly and ad-hoc basis when the weather is favorable, but usually on a Thursday when the the Moon is absent. Details about the location and time may be obtained at meetings. Members bring their binoculars and telescopes.
