| The Autumn Equinox Sky Camp
STAR PARTY | | | Info | he Equinox Sky Camp is the largest star party in the UK, with hundreds of amateur astronomers meeting up at Kelling Heath, Norfolk, for a weekend of observing and events. The main day of the event has traditionally been the Saturday, with trade stands, second-hand 'astroboot' stalls and talks, but since 2005 the events have extended into the Sunday with talks and a workshop of particular interest to active observers. These will take place after midday to allow for those who are observing until the small hours!
Day visitors are welcome on either day, but most participants stay overnight on one of the camping pitches. Two of the camping fields at the Kelling Heath site are devoted exclusively to amateur astronomers during this weekend, and a strict 'no lights' policy is observed here at night.
There is no charge for day visitors, but anyone wishing to stay for the evening is warned that car movements cannot take place on the observing field after dark, so they must park some distance away.
If you wish to stay overnight then there is a pitch fee payable directly to the Kelling Heath campsite. Note: Kelling Heath offer a special reduced rate for attendees of the Sky Camp. Tell Kelling Heath you are attending Sky Camp so that you get the special rate and a pitch on one of the observing fields dedicated to astronomy. Kelling Heath also have some lodges and mobile homes. These are located a little way from the observing field and are suitable for family groups.
For those who wish to extend their observing beyond the main weekend, Kelling Heath offer pitches on the observing fields over an extended period as listed above. Again do remember to tell them you are attending Sky Camp. | | |
